Lokrum Island's Naturist Coast: Signs Removed, Petition Launched, New Sign Installed

In late August 2026 the Lokrum Reserve, off Dubrovnik, removed signs pointing to a long-used naturist stretch of coastline, with a spokesperson saying the area had operated contrary to maritime-domain rules. Residents launched a petition asking authorities to find a lawful way to keep a tradition dating to the mid-1960s. A later report from Croatia Unscripted says the reserve has since installed a new sign confirming that naturist swimming is permitted, while a maritime management plan is still to come.

Why it matters

Naturist travellers to Croatia should check current local signage and rules; the legal framework is still being settled.
